Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern makes its home in a former drinking water reservoir built in 1926 for the City of Houston. In 2007, the reservoir was decommissioned after inspectors discovered an irreparable leak. In 2016, Buffalo Bayou Partnership launched its art program in the Cistern with the goal of preserving and repurposing the underground space by presenting bold, immersive art installations and experiences.
