Henderson & Kane General Store

Originally a sleepy corner store, tucked into the bijoux neighborhood of Houston’s historic Old Sixth Ward, Henderson & Kane is an independent general store dedicated to celebrating and promoting local products. Since its Houston Day (July 13th) debut, the pioneering operation has provided residents of the Old Sixth Ward neighborhood with local goods and produce, freshly baked pastries, espresso, and house-smoked meats. Husband and wife team John and Veronica Avila were inspired by a neighborhood Brooklyn, reimagined here and executed with a distinctly Southern influence, and have grown to offer not only their small-batch handcrafted barbecue but also groceries sourced from Texas farmers and ranchers, local craft beer, sustainable wines, artisan gifts, vintage-styled picnic packs and variety of Southern comfort food for takeaway.

“Quality and community are important to the families that shop with us, and we can best accomplish that through nurturing relationships with our customers, our growers, and our makers,” said co-owner Veronica Avila.
